Redefining primary care in the US healthcare system.

Ausa Ecosystem
Goal
Improving the slow primary care healthcare system in the US by removing frictions and redundant workflows for Elderly with chronic illnesses. As the company(Prar Inc.) is still a startup, it focuses on faster entry into the market while keeping costs low.
My Role
Leading the research and development process as the only Industrial Designer in the project. Closely working with UX Designer, Hardware Engineers and FDA Compliance team. Scope ranges from developing user intuitive solutions to creating business development strategies.
Ongoing project at Prar Inc. (2024-Present)
Background
40% of the adults in the United States suffer from a chronic condition that requires on going medical attention. The infamous slow primary healthcare system in the US makes regular consultations and medical care a long-winded process. This problem has been overlooked for a long time.
Remote care today is built around reimbursement, not user experience. Most RPM systems require multiple devices, manual steps, and digital fluencyโleading to poor adherence, high anxiety, and fragmented data. Older adults, in particular, face steep usability barriers, and care teams lack timely, structured signals to intervene early.
Ausa Health Ecosystem
2X faster workflow for Primary care doctors by providing patients routine vitals data right on their desks. Adding a touch point for patients with chronic illness to monitor and store their routine health vitals with ease.

Enhanced Doctor-Patient access
Ausa Ecosystem adds an additional touch point at home for the patients to access primary health care system. Patients can skip months of waiting period and consultation appointment queues using tele-consultation appointments.
Doctors can have easier workflow at clinics through timely patient health information provided in a simplified format to save time. Doctors are have the bandwidth to take up more appointments in a day, that fastens the primary health care.

Behind the scenes
Around 2 years of Research and Development process, countless trips between India, China and the US, and a lifetime of failures and learnings. Interpreting business needs and compliance constraints. Working closely with users in the US , and hardware and plastic manufacturers in China.
User Research and Teardowns
15+ user interviews(and observations), 20+ healthcare professional interviewed to set the rhythm for the project and understand the core needs and wants of the users. Analysing the status-quo solutions provided further understanding of frictions in the workflow and compliance requirements.
Observations from a Health care facility in San Francisco.
Leading the research process, interviewing, users and their caregivers.
Interviewing doctors and health nurses, understanding medical workflows.
Product tear-downs of competitors.

Lo-fi Concept Tests
Lofi Concept Prototypes
Concept Development
Initial Concept tests and evaluation at an old age facility in San Francisco.
Product Development
Back and forth communication with the Chinese vendors and in-house hardware team, decision making while strong business needs and compliance as constraints to translate concepts into working manufacturable pieces.
Assembly and Fitment iterations.
The fun CMF process.
Back and forth visits to China for hardware development!
Injection moulding - manufacturing method
User Testing
The process followed was never a linear. Users were kept at the centre of decision making throughout the process. Conducting user tests at various stages of the project (low to high fidelity) provided validation and feedback while shaping the design.
Time for some feedback and validation, tested with 25+ users.
